With this initiative, the government evaluates the health of all those pregnant women who are registered under the scheme. In this article, we will know more about this objective and the process of registration under this scheme.

What is PICME?

PICME stands for “Pregnancy and Infant Cohort Monitoring and Evaluation”. This system got developed by the government of Tamil Nadu to keep a track of all pregnant women in the state. Pregnant women need to register on the website https://picme.tn.gov.in/.

The right time to enroll for this scheme is from the time when a woman becomes pregnant till she gets the birth certificate for her newborn. All expectant woman who falls in the age group of fifteen to forty-nine years can register under “PICME” scheme. They are allocated with a twelve-digit number as“RCH ID”. This number is used to monitor all the different pregnancy aspects. The “Public Health Department” is the body held responsible for supervising pregnancy-related aspects.

What is the importance of PICME Registration?

This portal provides a platform to all expectant mothers to get themselves registered online under the PICME scheme through the closest government hospitals and primary health care centers. Expectant mothers can even contact Anganwadi center workers to collect the twelve-digit RCH Id registration code.

When the registration process gets accomplished, all applicants can avail the perks specified under this scheme. Along with this feature, registered expectant mothers will get evaluated by local nurses at the time of the anti-natal stage. Anganwadi nurses can offer assistance by helping expectant mothers to upload the details of their documents on government approved the software.

Registration on PICME makes it quite easier for PICME registered mothers to get a birth certificate. Post-delivery the expectant mother has to provide their allocated RCH ID to obtain the birth certificate for their newborn.

The number of days that takes for the women to get RCH ID number allocated to her depends on the area as well as the availability of Urban Health Nurse and Village Health Nurse. The typical time to get the RCH ID assigned is one month.

What is the need and benefit of Pre-Registration?

What are the ways by which Pre-Registration can be done?
