Can I Cancel My Tatkal Waiting List Ticket? If Yes, What Charges or Amount it will Refund?

You might be aware of the fact that IRCTC changed the refund rules for Tatkal Tickets. As per the new rule, the passengers would not get any sort of refund for cancelling the Tatkal Tickets which are confirmed. This was to ensure that the facility is not misused.

There are also cases when the Tatkal Ticket is in wait list and it has not been confirmed until the journey time. What can be done in such case? Will you still get the refund? Well, we have the answer to your question here and let us look at the different scenarios.

Waitlist and RAC – If you Tatkal Ticket is under Wait list or RAC status then you can go ahead and cancel the tickets till 30 minutes before the journey starts. In such a case, you will be eligible for getting the refund.

Deductions – Talking about the amount of refund, you must know the full amount is refunded here but a service fee is deducted from the refund amount. This amount can be between Rs 30 and Rs 120. The deduction amount is per passenger and not per PNR. The service fee includes the IRCTC service charge, insurance premium and payment gateway fee.

Auto-Cancellation – Even if you do not cancel the ticket and if the ticket has not been confirmed until the date of journey, the ticket will be automatically cancelled and the refund will be processed.

Counter Ticket – It should also be noted that if you have a counter ticket then you would have to cancel it manually using the counter ticket cancellation system – https://www.operations.irctc.co.in/ctcan/SystemTktCanLogin.jsf

E-Ticket and I-Ticket – If you have e-ticket or i-ticket, the ticket will be cancelled and you will receive an intimation about the refund amount. It takes about 5 to 7 working days for the refund to be processed. Also, if you used IRCTC e-Wallet then your amount will be refunded in 1 day.
