IRCTC Next Generation Ticket Cancelling Procedure
It is quite simple to cancel the ticket when there is a sudden change in the plan. If you are in the middle of any such problem then here is how you can cancel the train.
IRCTC Portal & Cancel Ticket –Since you booked the ticket from IRCTC Portal, you need to visit the IRCTC Portal to cancel the ticket. On the portal, click on Trains and then click on Cancel Tickets. Select the Type of Ticket you want to cancel. Login after making the selection.

Ticket Cancellation/Refund Rules
No refund is provided on confirmed tickets on Tatkal quota to avoid the abuse of Tatkal scheme, except in case of some special situations. Indian Railways allows full fare refund of confirmed tickets in Tatkal scheme in only specific cases and in e-tickets. Customer need to use TDR facility or Ticket Deposit Receipt from IRCTC official website.
On confirmed tickets, refund of fare along with Tatkal charges is granted for tickets booked under this scheme only in some specific circumstances, such as –
- In case train is delayed by up to 3 hours of originating station of train, not at boarding point if originating and boarding stations are different.
- If train is scheduled to run on diverted route and passenger won’t be able to travel.
- If train runs on diverted route and destination or boarding station or both don’t fall on this route.
- In case coach is not attached in which Tatkal ticket is earmarked and accommodation is not provided to the passenger in same class.
- If passenger has been downgraded to lower class and he skips traveling.
- If passenger chooses to continue traveling in lower class, refund will be given on the basis of difference of tatkal charges and fare, if any.

Pooled Quota Waiting List (PQWL) – PQWL is issued for a passenger who travels between two intermediate stations or from one intermediate station to terminating station. There is only one Pooled Quota available.
Roadside Station Waiting List (RSWL) – RSWL is allocated for a passenger who wishes to travel from the originating station to the roadside station. It has less chance of ticket confirmation.
Request Waiting List (RQWL) – If passengers want to travel from intermediate station to another intermediate station and if pooled Quoto and general Quoto do not cover it, they can place a ticket request, which will move into Request Waiting List.
Tatkal Waiting List (TQWL) – Tatkal Waiting List means that passengers are issued CKWL for tatkal Quota Waiting list. TQWL has less chance of confirmation when compared to GNWL
Confirmed Ticket (CNF) – It means that Indian Railway ensures that passenger get allotted seat in Train Specified in Ticket with a seat number, Date of Journey.
